LAST GIFT

Last Gift is 3 part animation created for Ang Chin Moh Funeral Directors 洪振茂生命礼仪 that tells a compelling story highlighting the importance of pre-planning funerals, tailored to Singapore's Chinese culture.

Year :

2023

Service :

Animation, Campaign

Client :

Ang Chin Moh Funeral Directors

Project Duration :

6 Months

Problem :

In Singapore, conversations around death and funeral planning are often avoided due to cultural taboos. This leads to families being unprepared and unable to honour final wishes. Ang Chin Moh Funeral Company needed a way to communicate funeral pre-planning without fear, discomfort, or emotional manipulation.

Solution :

We created The Last Gift, a short narrative animation that reframes funeral pre-planning as an act of care. Using a character-driven story, the film highlights the cost of avoided conversations while remaining subtle, respectful, and culturally grounded. A three-act structure, familiar domestic settings, and restrained emotional tone allow the message to resonate naturally.

Challenge :

The primary challenge was balancing emotional impact with sensitivity. The story needed to feel authentic without becoming overly sentimental. Cultural accuracy including language, environment, and symbolism was essential. Early feedback exposed issues in pacing and narrative clarity, requiring rapid iteration under tight timelines.

Summary :

The Last Gift demonstrates my ability to approach sensitive subject matter through human-centred storytelling, cultural research, and iterative design. The project reflects a considered, professional approach to animation using narrative clarity and visual restraint to communicate complex ideas with empathy and purpose.
